October 29th

65 minute seance. Soft pink lighting conditions.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet with a small table in front of her).

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Ian. Jerry. Dave. Pam. Phil.

The seance began as usual. On this occasion it was apparent that several potential spirit communicators came forward. It was also evident that there was some discomfort within the vessel's throat ...we suspect this to be as a result of ectoplasm being manipulated. There were some facial changes seen, as in the early stages of transfiguration development.

Evidentially the vessel's right hand was moved to write some words:

'Elizabeth'. 'Violets'. 'Purple'. 'Love'. And she wrote '18' when asked at what age she had passed.

Finally, later in the seance, another message was written: 'Stand up and be counted'.

At this stage it is inappropriate to assume any direction, and we await further development with interest.

October 8th

Pink lighting conditions. 75 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet with small table in front of her)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Phil. Lynne.

For several reasons this was an unusual seance. To begin with, just prior to going out to the lodge, Chris felt as if she'd forgotten something, and although this is not in itself strange, it happened to set the tone for the evening.When in the lodge, with the lighting set and music ready the prayer came to be spoken.

At this time Chris found it difficult to speak, three times during the reading of the prayer her words were felt to be prevented. During the seance itself she felt over-tired, although knew herself not to be tired at all. She slouched, and at one point moved her legs, which knocked the light; causing a scuffle (although she noted at the medium's trance state remained undisturbed).

Finally at close of seance Chris, still apparently confused, spoke the prayer prior to playing the closing music, rather than the other way around as is the usual custom.Although Chris is not hugely efficient and none of these things, in themselves, are strange...it is unusual that they should all occcur on the same evening, when during the day she had not felt tired and her brain had not been mis-functioning.

The medium within the cabinet sat as usual. There was a variety of presentation. One unfamiliar presentation was offered, with her hands placed in 'consideration' or prayer mode, with finger tips held together. The words 'Elizabeth' was written (by the right hand) and 'Yes', in response the Chris asking if this communicator had been through before.

Facial changes were apparent, as may become displayed during the development of transfiguration, although these were unstable in presentation.

Shirley, afterwards had felt herself to have been asleep. Yet her seated position, head positioning and facial changes, as well as the hand presentations remained indicative of typical trance state. She also 'choked' part way through the seance in a manner typical of what may be recognised as energy manipulation, or ectoplasmic production. Shirley said that she herself did not choke, and that the coughing was 'spirit induced'.

Phil was 'in and out' of light trance state, his guides clearly being close. Lynne also felt the presence of her guides around her.The seance was, in all, subtly strange.

Chris feels that 'adjustments' are being made, with energies being blended by Spirit. The 'feelings' are much as have been felt within the other Lodge circles during their formation. The signs are of progress being made.NOTE: Jerry has been offered the opportunity to sit in the cabinet within this circle next week. Shirley will take her place again the following week.

OCTOBER 1st

Clear pink lighting conditions. 75 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated within open cabinet). A small table with paper and pen were offered.

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Phil Lynne. Jerry.

The seance began quietly, then before the end of the first piece of music is became apparent that the first familiar communicator came forward, his presence indicated by the position of the vessel's head and the movement of her right hand.

As this communicator 'settled' a second familiar communicator (a female) 'blended' with the him. During this period the vessel's torso began to move forward, to become closer to the table. The words 'Sugar and Spice' were then written in ill-formed hand. These words being (we think) connected to the female communicator, who has previously written the word 'Girl.

Following withdrawal from both these spirit people (who we feel to be guides) a third 'energy form' appeared to be displayed, with some transfiguration taking place.

Energy seemed to travel between Jerry (sitter) and the vessel for much of this time.Phil's guides were also 'seen' to be present during this seance. Lynne too (seated in the north corner) was felt to be experiencing some personal development.An interesting seance, and very much enjoyed.

AUGUST 25th

Soft pink lighting conditions. 70 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris, Lynne, Phil.

The evening began as usual with the vessel experiencing a light, spirit-induced, trance condition within the first piece of music being played. Her head leans back in a manner now familiar, and at the same time her right hand becomes raised. Chris feels that this representation is of the vessel's main spirit guide, or gatekeeper.

On this occasion the right hand was raised and came to rest above the paper that had been placed upon the table in front of the cabinet. Chris placed the pen in the hand, which held it lightly. The word 'message' was then written.

Following this presentation the left hand rose in a manner that Chris felt is representative of a female spirit person.Finally, after another pause, another movement of the left hand, which moved 'differently' to the first time, seemd to Chris to be a male person, and one familiar to the vessel in some way.

Please not that Chris's opinions are guesswork, or formed from a smattering of experience. Until written word, or voice, or some alternative evidential development, becomes enabled through the receiving medium we are all trying to solve the puzzles.

NOTE: After the seance Shirley said that she had visualised a bottle, when the word 'message' was written. The second time the hand moved she did feel this to be, possibly, under the control of a female spirit person. The third time she wasn't sure about, but felt overwhelming love and also 'visualised' her father.An interesting evening.

AUGUST 20th

Soft pink lighting conditions. 70 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet)A small table had been placed in front of the cabinet with paper and pen laid upon it.

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Lynne. Phil.

The evening began as usual. Before long it became apparent that the vessel was within spirit controlled strance. There was a familiar appearance to her seated position that indicated the presence of a spirit person or guide.

Gradually there was a slight adjustment to this as a second familiar 'person' came forward. Chris felt this person to be female. At this point the vessel's right hand lifted and very slowly moved towards the paper laid upon the table. The physical body of the vessel 'shuddered' very slightly as her torso moved forward, towards the table. This shuddering movement typical of early spirit-controlled movements of a medium's physical body. Chris handed the pen towards the fingers of the visitor, who held it lightly. Some light scribbling took place before the pen dropped and the energy withdrew. The way the pen fell and the vessels body 'emptied' was an indication or spirit energy withdrawing, those familiar with trance work will understand this.

After a short period it became apparent that a second person was coming forward. Again this 'person' was recognised from previous sittings. Chris felt this person to be male. This time the vessel's right hand lifted. At this time Chris felt an impression of 'healing' or something similar to this. Perhaps 'welcome' or 'friend'...something benign and welcoming.

By now the seance was drawing to a close. We therefore asked spirit to withdraw; and after period of about 10 minutes we closed with the customary prayer.At this stage the circle sits for a pre-set period of time. We open with a specific prayer, play a set selection of music, then ask spirit to withdraw, enabling the vessel to return to their normality, before closing with a prayer.

This routine forms a structure, which becomes respected by the spirit people. Later on this structure is adjusted in respect of developmental progress or the requests of the spirit team.

NOTE: During this seance Lynne was seated in the north corner of the lodge. Both Chris and Shirley had been aware that a spirit guide was with Lynne when we were all sitting together in the house prior to the seance. This guide remained with her throughout the seance. Lynne's trance condition was best described as light. However, Lynne has always been a trustworthy and logical-minded sitter, totally lacking in imagination. From Chris's point of view Lynne has been 'the most valued' sitter within any circle where subtle energies are presenting and 'factual clarity' (which Chris considers necessary during the development of physical mediumship) is appreciated. For Lynne to 'present' as having a guide with her, and for her to be aware of this as a reality (which she is) is worthy of note.An interesting seance with progress being made.

AUGUST 13th

Mianly pink lighting conditions. 70 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Phil Lynne.The evening's seance was quietly comfortable and pleasurable. The vessel remained in trance state, with arms slightly raised upon occasion. It became apparent that the right arm becomes raised to signify the presence of a male spirit (the name Thomas has been mentioned) with the left moves to indicate the presence of a female.

Both these statements are open to query however, as the developments are undefined as yet.

AUGUST 6th

Mainly red lighting conditions. 65 minute seance.

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Phil. Margaret. Dave. Pam.

The seance was set with Shirley seated in the cabinet. In front of her was a small circular white table, on top of which was a paper pad and pen. The reason for this was that during a previous sitting each of Shirley's hands appeared to be controlled by Spirit, when she sat in trance state.

As no vocal communication has yet been forthcoming it was felt possible that Spirit might instead initially communicate through writing. During the seance in fact, at different times, each of the vessel's hands moved towards the table. The left hand making finger movements similar to those needed to hold a writing implement.

At this stage however...it's all guess work.Also during the latter part of the seance three of the sitters saw energy fuzz around the top of the table, and all felt it to be vibrating as if 'preparing to move'. Again, as the table did not move in fact, we remain questioning.

What wasn't guesswork however, is that four sitters clearly saw 'energy fuzz' around the vessel's head and shoulders, as well as above her head. There were also patches of light seen within the cabinet area throughout.

It should also be noted that Phil was also experiencing a trance condition virtually throughout the whole seance.This circle is very newly formed and there is a long way to go before the necessary stability of energy blending is likely to bring any further evidential phenomena to the fore.

JULY 23rd

Soft pink lighting conditions. 60 minute seance

Medium: Shirley (seated in open cabinet)

Sitters and witnesses: Chris. Lynne. Phil.

Although Shirley had been sitting within the Bristol Spirit Lodge for several weks, this was to be her first sitting in the cabinet. It is now intended for Shirley to be seated within the cabinet for the time being. She has been experiencing spontaneous trance state within seance conditions within the lodge for several weeks. It has therefore been decided that the sitters will sit in support of her development, just to see what happens!

This evening Shirley's trance state deepened. Her right arm raised spontaneously (out of her control) twice, apparently in response to Chris's conversation. Her left hand also moved on several occasions, again not controlled by herself.

Throughout the seance the energy within the cabinet area was visibly seen by two sitters. Small sparks, and the familiar 'almost like electricity' haze was apparent around the vessel's face and above her head.An interesting seance.

NOTE: As it seemed apparent that spirit had control of Shirley's hands, Chris will provide paper and pencil on a small table in front of the medium when next we sit.
